BRICK, NJ — The Brick Township Board of Adjustment is scheduled to hear a proposal to put a Popeyes Lousiana Chicken restaurant at a site on Route 88.

The proposal, by developer JSM at Martin LLC, is set to be heard at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the municipal building, 401 Chambers Bridge Road.

The site proposed for the restaurant is one of the pads on the Laurelton Plaza property, where the Wawa operates on Route 88 at Jack Martin Boulevard. The site has been the source of persistent traffic complaints since the Wawa opened a year ago.

The proposal was initially set to be heard by the zoning board in October, but that hearing was postponed. It is an amendment to the site plan approved for the property in 2018, and would swap a 4,535-square-foot bank with a drive-through for a 2,340-square-foot, 60-seat restaurant with a double-stacked drive-through, according to a public notice.

The Brick Township Police Department has expressed concerns about the potential traffic impact of the Popeyes, according to application documents, but a letter from Stonefield Engineering says that impact will be minimal.
