Princeton Avenue Crash Claims Life of Woman, 71, Police Say

A Lakewood woman died Friday morning in a Princeton Avenue crash after her car left the road and hit a fence, Brick Township police said.

Anne Labrutto, 71, of Lakewood, was the sole occupant of the silver 2009 Kia Spectra that crashed about 6:30 a.m., Patrolman Jay Lampiasi of the traffic safety division said.

Labrutto was westbound on Princeton Avenue when her car veered off the road, hit a curb and overturned, Lampiasi said. The Kia came to rest on the shoulder of Princeton Avenue about 50 feet east of Navajo Trail, he said.

Laurelton Fire Company Station 23 responded to extricate Labrutto from the car and both Brick Township Police EMS and MONOC responded to treat injuries, but Labrutto was prounounced dead at the scene, Lampiasi said.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene in addition to Brick Township Police Sgt. Neal Pedersen, Lampiasi and Patrolman Scott Dierking of the Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed Labrutto may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway, Lampiasi said.
