Thank a veteran on this Veteran’s Day. I heard this on several news media. It is always appropriate to thank a vet or anyone who is in the service of protecting our lives or rights.
But today is not Veteran’s Day. The day designated as Veteran’s Day is November 11th. November 11th was originally called Armistice Day in celebration of the Armistice signed at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, ending World War I. It was the end of the War to end all Wars. But it wasn’t the end of war. Two decades later an even worse more horrible war was fought.
Memorial Day originally celebrated on May 30th not matter what day of the week it fell on. It was called Decoration Day and dates back to the end of the Civil War. The tradition was to decorate the graves of those who had fallen fighting for our Freedoms.

It is not the Bar-B-Q’s I object to. It is that they are not the family gatherings of my childhood during which we remembered and honor our dead soldiers.

God Bless the USA. God Bless those currently in service to our country and/or our citizens. Most of all today, I ask our God to give rest to all those souls who so heroically and unselfishly lost their lives to make our lives better.
