Rocks, Bermuda (And My Solo Show Opening Friday!)

The Weekly Photograph and Article of Fine Art Photographer Colin Seitz

I made this photograph during a short trip to Bermuda in 2008. I was immediately impressed with the structure of the rocks, jutting out of the sand at strange angles as the sand met the ocean. The striations in the rock were equally impressive and I found myself staring at them for a great deal of time, walking around to try to capture the best photograph of the scene in front of me. Late afternoon sun helped with the composition and also helped with accenting the rocks and the various different tones. I particularly like this photograph because most people think of beach scenes like those of Bermuda to contain saturated colors from sunset or sunrise; I think this black and white photograph captures a fascinating beach scene, as well as some very cool geology.

This is the photograph that was chosen by Bob and Liz McKay, owners of McKay imaging for the postcard that announced my solo show which opens this Friday from 7-10 PM. The show will feature 21 of my finest framed black and white prints. Of the 21 prints, there are more than 2 times as many from New Jersey than anywhere else; this is noteworthy considering that the show has prints from Yosemite, Acadia, and this one, from Bermuda. If you ever had any doubt regarding the diversity and beauty of this state, you must see this show!

The show is at McKay Imaging, 12 Monmouth St., Red Bank, NJ. The opening reception will have complimentary wine and appetizers and runs from 7-10PM on Friday December 12th. The show will run until January 6th, with the gallery open for viewing from 1-7 PM on Dec 15, 16, 22, 23 and January 5th and 6th. This a great opportunity to get some local art for the holiday gift giving season. In addition to the framed work in the show, I will have about 10 other matted prints ready for framing in the print bins sharing space with some other local artists.
