Route 88 Intersection Re-Opens Following Early Morning MVA

Route 88 at Van Zile Road is now open after a downed telephone pole forced the closure of the roadway for over eight hours.

"A pole was taken out and the wires with it by an intoxicated [motor vehicle] operator," said a Brick Township police desk sergeant.

The accident occurred at approximaely 1:24 a.m.

The intersection reopened at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Route 88 when the accident occurred, according to police.

Police have not released any additional information, including the identity of the driver. The police report is still being completed, an officer said.
