Services Set For Philip LaManna, World War II Veteran, Ex-POW
Mr. LaManna moved to Brick in 1970. Services are Sunday and Monday.

Services are scheduled for Sunday and Monday for Philip M. LaManna of Brick, a World War II veteran and prisoner of war, who died Thursday. He was 89.
According to his obituary on the Weatherhead-Young Funeral Home website, Philip was born in Newark on Jan. 30, 1926 to James and Elizabeth (nee Belina) LaManna. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Army’s 70th Division, 275th Regiment, during World War II, and was a prisoner of war. After serving his term, Philip lived in Belleville until 1970 when he relocated to Brick.
While living in Brick he was an active member of the VFW Post 8867 and a parishioner of the Church of the Visitation. After retiring from Concurrent Computer Corporation (formerly Perkin-Elmer) in Oceanport, Philip enjoyed bowling, and was an avid Yankees fan. He took pleasure in attending Lakewood BlueClaws games, and boating and fishing with his son and family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Philip was preceded in death in 2006 by his loving wife, Dorothy. Philip leaves behind his beloved son, Philip J. LaManna and his wife Kathryn of Jackson; his cherished granddaughter, Jillian LaManna of Jackson; his two brothers, Flavio (Cy) LaManna and Vincent LaManna ; and his sister, Lena (Lee) Civitano, all of Toms River.
The family will receive relatives and friends for viewing on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, 885 Mantoloking Road, Brick. The funeral Mass will be celebrated in Philip’s memory on Monday, Aug. 10, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Visitation in Brick. The entombment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Philip’s memory to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.weatherheadyoung.com.
