Shade Tree Commission Says Show Us Brick's Trees

The commission is hosting a photo contest to help celebrate Arbor Day.

I think that I shall never see, a photo lovely as a tree ...

OK, so that’s not exactly what Joyce Kilmer wrote in his famous poem, but chances are he would approve of the Brick Township Shade Tree Commission’s Arbor Day contest.

The commission is encouraging residents to photograph and submit via email photos of the most unusual tree in Brick.

Residents who would like to participate can photograph, or send in a previously taken photo of a tree or trees located within the borders of Brick Township. They should submit the photo along with the approximate location of the tree and their contact information via email to shadetree@bricktownship.net.

The photos will be posted to the township Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BrickTwpNJGovernment, where the public can vote for their favorites by “liking” the photos.

The winner will receive a certificate from the township and a $25 gift certificate from the Shade Tree Commission. Arbor Day falls on Friday, April 24 this year. The deadline for submitting a photo for consideration is Friday, April 10.

“We all know what a beautiful and unique place Brick Township is, and this contest will allow everyone to enjoy some of the natural beauty that makes up our town,” Mayor John G. Ducey said. “I applaud the Shade Tree Commission for their creativity and effort in highlighting the importance of Arbor Day, not only this year, but each and every year.”

(Editor’s note: A previous version of this article referred to Joyce Kilmer as a woman; Joyce Kilmer is actually Alfred Joyce Kilmer, who hailed from New Brunswick. Patch regrets the error.)
