BRICK, NJ — It is quite possibly the worst area to drive in Brick: Chambers Bridge Road by the Brick Commons shopping center.

On a good day you might only have to wait two or three cycles of the traffic signal to be able to turn left into the shopping plaza from Chambers Bridge Road. At its worst? The traffic for the left turn will back up all the way to Route 70.

About the only time it's quiet is late in the evening ... after all the stores have closed, of course.

In the summer of 2020, as motorists were returning to the roads after months of being cooped up because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Brick Township Police Department put together a video that showed motorists a better way to deal with the congestion, highlighting two additional ways to get into the shopping center.

That video resurfaced recently, shared in the Overheard in Brick Facebook community. With Black Friday shopping and the craziness of the holiday season upon us, it seems like a good time to share it again here, especially for new residents of Brick.

Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly, the department's community policing supervisor, filmed the routes drivers can take to avoid the left-turn nightmare. One is Ovation Way, a jughandle across from the Brick Township Post Office; the other is the Route 70 entrance to the shopping center, near Kirkland's.

The video is below, along with a map that shows the two alternate routes.
