Six Flags' Coffin Challenge: Spend 30 Hours, Win $300, Passes

Do you think you could avoid feeling claustrophobic for that long? Is $300 and season passes enough to lure you? Tell us in the comments.

JACKSON, NJ — Would you be willing to spend 30 hours in a coffin to win a prize? Is $300 and season passes enough to convince you to stay in a 2-foot by 7-foot handcrafted box? Six Flags Great Adventure wants to know and it's inviting daring souls to apply for its 30-hour Coffin Challenge.

Six people will be chosen at random to be Coffin Dwellers and spend 30 hours inside 2-foot by 7-foot coffins with the promise of $300 cash, a pair of gold-level season passes, a pair of dining passes.

Oh, and they get to keep the coffin, too: "That's right — the handcrafted (slightly-used) coffin is yours to take home," the website says.

If more than one coffin dweller remains after 30 hours, there will be a drawing for the cash prize. All participants remaining will receive a 2019 Gold Season Pass and two Fright Fest Passes for the Haunted House.

The Coffin Challenge is part of Fright Fest, which is being held at the theme park on weekends through Halloween.

The challenge itself will take place on Oct. 28. Contestants will get into their coffins at 1 p.m. and, except for 6-minute bathroom breaks every hour, will stay there until 7 p.m. on Oct. 29. Coffin Dwellers can bring a pillow, sleeping bag or blankets, and they must eat their meals in the coffin.

If they get out at any time other than the designated bathroom breaks, they will be disqualified.

Participants must be 18 or older with a valid photo ID. They cannot have any medical conditions that would make lying in the coffin a health risk and all will be required to sign a waiver.

Entries must be submitted before midnight Oct. 14 and the coffin dwellers will be chosen on Tuesday. Oct. 16. Those chosen will need to confirm participation by Thursday, Oct. 18.

The entry form can be found here.
