St. Dominic In Brick Named National Blue Ribbon School

The elementary school was one of 49 non-public schools to receive the honor from the federal Department of Education.

BRICK, NJ — St. Dominic School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for 2018 by the federal Department of Education, federal officials announced Monday.

The elementary school at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, which has nearly 460 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, is one of 349 and one of just 49 non-public schools nationwide to receive the honor in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category of the National Blue Ribbon Schools program, which means student achievement in English and math is among the highest in the country (top 15 percent) as measured by a nationally normed test.

For 36 years, the U.S. Department of Education has been seeking out and celebrating high performing schools across the country. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos congratulated students for their accomplishments and the school for its extraordinary commitment to meeting the students’ needs. An awards assembly for all of the honored schools is set for Nov. 7 and 8 in Washington.

"Each and every person in our school community works tirelessly to ensure our children have an enriching and inspiring academic experience and are prepared to take on the world," St. Dominic Principal Carol Bathmann said. "In return, our students are engaged in their studies and activities, and it is their many achievements that contributed significantly to our 2018 National Blue Ribbon award. This is truly an honor and an affirmation of the hard work, expertise, and dedication of so many."

The students of Saint Dominic School learned about the award during an assembly Monday, where they watched the announcement from Secretary DeVos, and then celebrated this achievement.
