BRICK, NJ — St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church will be unveiling a shrine to a deeply spiritual teen who catalogued Eucharistic miracles as he battled cancer on Sunday at the church.

The shrine to Blessed Carlo Acutis will be unveiled after Sunday's 9 a.m. Mass, church officials said. In addition, his mother, Antonia Salzano, is scheduled to talk about her son's life, mission, and love for God.

Blessed Carlo Acutis developed a website catalog of all Eucharistic miracles throughout history as a young teenager. The 15-year-old died of leukemia on Oct. 12, 2006, and he was beatified by Pope Francis on Oct. 10, 2020. His remains are displayed at the Church of Saint Mary Major in Assisi.

The shrine at St. Dominic will be dedicated by Bishop David M. O’Connell of the Diocese of Trenton. The shrine was created by St. Dominic pastor Father Brian Woodrow and a group of supporters and will hold relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis obtained for the Diocese by our parish's associate priest, Father Marian Kokorzycki, during a pilgrimage to Italy in 2021.

O'Connell named Blessed Carlo Acutis "Diocesan Patron of Youth, Especially Those in Catholic Schools and Religious Education Programs."

"Blessed Carlo Acutis is a saint for today and a saint for all youth!" the church announcement said. "Children and young adults can relate to Blessed Carlo in a unique way through similar interests such as; a love of sports, playing video games, funny jokes, and discovering all things about the computer."

The shrine is being dedicated in the Diocese of Trenton during the final year of the United States’ "National Eucharistic Revival." An exhibit featuring the Eucharistic miracles catalogued by Blessed Carlo Acutis is currently traveling throughout the parishes of the Diocese.
