Storm Knocks Out Power to More Than 2,800 In Ocean County

Breaking: The outages were scattered across northern Ocean County.

A cluster of storms that brought rain and lightning to much of New Jersey on Thursday evening knocked out power to a few thousand customers in northern Ocean County.

According to the First Energy outage map, nearly 2,800 customers remained without power in the county as of 10 p.m., with the outages scattered across Toms River, Brick, Lakewood, Jackson and Point Pleasant.

Most of the outages were 20 customers or fewer, but nearly 1,500 homes were without power in the area between Routes 88, 70 and Burnt Tavern Road.

There was no estimate on what time power would be restored, but JCP&L indicated it was an equipment issue.

More storms were possible; the National Weather Service extended its severe weather warning through 10:30 p.m.
