Substation Fire Knocks Out Power To Hundreds In Brick, Toms River
The station on the barrier island caught fire Sunday afternoon.
BRICK AND TOMS RIVER, NJ — A fire in a substation on the northern barrier island in Ocean County knocked out power to more than 6,000 homes in the area on Sunday, authorities said.
The substation caught fire shortly after 2 p.m., knocking out power to homes and businesses from Mantoking and Brick south through Lavallette and Toms River, according to the Jersey Central Power & Light outage site.
More than 3,000 homes and businesses remained without electricity as of 4:15 p.m., according to the JCP&L outage website.

There were just over 1,300 homes in Brick, 235 in Mantoloking, 244 in Lavallette and just over 1,300 in Toms River that remained without electrical services as of 4:15 p.m.
JCP&L was anticipating power restoration by 5:30 p.m., according to its website.
