SUV Stolen From Owner's Driveway Recovered Using OnStar: Police

The SUV and a second vehicle that also was stolen were left unlocked and with the keys inside, Jackson police said.

JACKSON, NJ — A Chevrolet GMC stolen from its owner's driveway was recovered Sunday after authorities tracked it through OnStar, Jackson police said.

Jackson Police Officer Brian Baranyay responded to a Cobain Road home just before 8 a.m. Sunday and learned two vehicles — a 2019 GMC SUV and a 2017 Kia — had been stolen from the driveway, and both vehicles were left unlocked with the keys in the center consoles.

The GMC was equipped with OnStar, and through that system was recovered in Hillside and impounded for further investigation, police said.

A surveillance camera at the home captured some video of a suspect who appeared to match a suspect seen on camera in a car burglary of an unlocked car on Tuscany Drive, which involved two hooded and unidentified subjects.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Jackson Police at 732-928-1111.
