Swimming Advisory At Windward Beach In Brick
Water quality testing showed elevated levels of bacteria at the river beach on Monday.

BRICK, NJ — A swimming advisory is in place for Windward Beach in Brick after water tests showed high bacteria levels on Monday.
The state Department of Environmental Protection's bathing beach testing program showed a reading of 260 colonies of Enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of water for the sample taken from the Metedeconk River at Windward Beach on Monday.
The water quality standard for bathing beaches is 104 colonies per 100 milliliters, and a reading higher than that indicates the water may not be safe for swimming. Additional samples were taken Tuesday and retested. If the retest exceeds 104 colonies, the beach will be closed to swimming until further tests show the bacteria level has dropped sufficiently.
