Tree Smashes Transformer, Knocks Out Power In Brick

There were 3,400 homes without power as a result; police shut Lanes Mill Road for a few hours.

BRICK, NJ — A tree fell on a transformer Saturday evening along Lanes Mill Road, knocking out power to homes and traffic lights and causing at least one transformer to explode, Brick police said.

The 6:45 p.m. incident left more than 3,400 homes and businesses without electricity, according to Jersey Central Power and Light. Lanes Mill Road was closed white repairs were 7caused authorities to shutdown the road in the area on Saturday night.

Brick Township police said Lanes Mill was closed from Greenwood Loop Road to Oregon Avenue and will be closed for several hours.

Power was reuseh and there ea restored. The company said extra crews have been called into assist.

Several transformers in the area of Lanes Mill Road and Sally Ike Road area affected, police said.
