The Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF) raises funds for pediatric brain tumor research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). KRF was founded by Kristen and Rich Gillette, Oceanport, in memory of their daughter Kortney, who died from a brain tumor in 2006.

“Our staff and patrons’ enthusiastic support of this worthy local cause remains as strong as ever,” said Kirk Ruoff, who, with his wife, Pam, are owners of Turning Point. The restaurant is one of KRF’s largest corporate sponsors.

On the fundraising weekend during regular restaurant hours, guests at Turning Point who donated a minimum of $25 to KRF on either of those two days received in return a Turning Point gift card good for two entrées to be used any time in the future.

“We are very grateful to the Ruoffs and their 180 employees at 11 locations, and our 40-plus (KRF) volunteers and the hundreds of patrons who have made this annual event a successful way to increase funding for pediatric brain tumor research,” said Kristen Gillette, the charity’s founder. “This fundraiser elicits support from several different groups of supporters who are all coming together to make a difference in the lives of very sick children.”

“We depend on the growing community support for our mission to find better treatments and cures for the more than 3,500 children diagnosed annually with brain tumors,” she added.

The KRF foundation reached a milestone in 2015 when, after just nine years, it surpassed $1 million in donations to CHOP.

About The Kortney Rose Foundation

Kortney Rose Gillette was a vivacious nine-year old girl with a winning smile and unparalleled zest for life. She loved playing with friends and animals (stuffed or real) and enjoyed school at Wolf Hill Elementary School in Oceanport, NJ. This didn’t change even after her diagnosis of a terminal brainstem glioma. On April 27, 2006, four months after her diagnosis, Kortney lost her brave battle with this pediatric brain cancer.

The Kortney Rose Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charity that was set up by Kortney’s parents, after her death in 2006 from a rare brain tumor, to create her legacy of helping other children through the promise of research. Since inception the foundation has built a playground in Kortney’s name, donated over $1,200,000 to the pediatric brain tumor research program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and helped establish its world-class Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC.org). More than 95% of every dollar donated to KRF goes directly to this research. The foundation was also instrumental in passing legislation naming May as brain tumor awareness month in the State of New Jersey. http://www.thekortneyrosefoundation.org
