Video Shows Flies In Brick Woman's Dunkin' Breakfast Sandwich

She says the store took the sandwich back and offered to replace it but gave no refund: "I don't want anything ever again."

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A Brick Township woman says she found dead flies and worms in a breakfast sandwich she bought at Dunkin' Donuts on Thursday, and that the store offered only to replace it when she complained.

Krystle Platzer, in a video she posted to Facebook and sent to Patch, says she purchased sandwiches — bacon, egg and cheese on a crossaint for her son and for herself — at the Dunkin' Donuts across from Ocean Lanes bowling alley, at 1500 Ocean Ave., which also is known as Route 88.

"This is what you get when you go to the 88 Dunkin' Donuts," Platzer says on the video. "Dead flies ... bugs, bugs, bugs." The video, taken while Platzer was sitting in her car, shows closeups of the sandwich, where dead flies are visible.

An employee at the Dunkin' Donuts on Ocean Avenue took phone number and said the manager would call back, but no return call had been received as of 11:45 a.m.

"At Dunkin’, food safety is a top priority and nothing is more important to us than our franchisees operating clean and safe restaurants," said Olivia White, a Dunkin' corporate spokesperson. "We are aware of the guest complaint regarding the Dunkin’ location at 1500 Ocean Avenue in Lakewood, NJ. We take matters such as this very seriously. Upon learning of the complaint, we immediately dispatched a certified Operations Manager from Dunkin’ to the store to confirm all food safety and quality standards are being followed. The franchisee who owns and operates the store has confirmed he has met with the guest to resolve the matter and apologize for the poor experience."

Platzer said she discovered the bugs after she took a bite of the sandwich when she got home.

"My baby was hungry so I gave him one of the sandwiches on my way home he ate it. I walked in my home starved opened it took a bite and a worm alive fell out after the bite onto the Dunkin' wrapper," she said Friday morning. "I screamed and opened the sandwich to see all of those bugs alive and dead. I immediately called the (Ocean County) health department and Dunkin' told me to bring it in so I did."

She took the video in the car before taking the sandwich back into the store, she said.

"The bacon was clearly raw," she said. "There were worms, flies and gnats."

"The owner said 'I'll look into it.' I was outraged. No refund and (he) offered me food for my baby. I said 'No I don't want anything ever again.' "
