Voting In Tuesday's Primary? Here's What You Need To Know In Brick

Tuesday is primary voting day in New Jersey, and while most of the focus has been on the presidential races, there are some contested primaries at the local level in Ocean County.

In Brick, there is a battle between Democratic candidates for the right to face incumbent Tom MacArthur in the race for the House of Representatives in the Third District. 

Jim Keady, who lives in Monmouth County but owns the Lighthouse Tavern in Waretown, is battling Frederick LaVergne, a Burlington County resident, in that race.

MacArthur is unopposed in the Republican primary.

There also are three slates of Democrats seeking the right to face off against incumbent Freeholder Jack Kelly and Virginia Haines, who was appointed to fill the seat of Jim Lacey, who resigned in December.  

Michael B. Cooke and Ed Wolff are running on the Official Regular Democratic Organization ticket; Robyn Gedrich and Joni Brennan are running on the Bernie Sanders Democratic ticket, and Scott Neuman and Tracy Caprioni are running on the Ocean Anti-Corruption Democrats ticket. 

Kelly and Haines are running unopposed for the Republican freeholder nominations, as is incumbent Sheriff Michael Mastronardy. Sal Ottaviano is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination for the sheriff's race.

The primary elections in New Jersey are open only to those voters who are registered as either Republicans or Democrats, or unaffiliated voters who have never voted in a primary. 

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, the Ocean County Clerk's office said.
