WALL, NJ — Get ready for a big sale: the Kmart in Wall Township will be closing its doors for good later this fall.

Transformco, which operates about 400 Sears and Kmart stores, announced the Wall location, at 1825 Route 35, was among four in New Jersey that planned to be closed by mid-December.

"After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Kmart stores in Wayne, Trenton, Wall and Somers Point, NJ," Larry Costello, public relations director for Transformco said in an emailed statement. Liquidation sales are expected to begin in mid-September, he said.

Hundreds of Sears and Kmart stores were closed amid bankruptcy filings through 2018, but earlier this year, former Sears CEO Eddie Lampert struck a last-minute deal to buy Sears assets out of bankruptcy and keep about 400 stores open under a new entity, Transform Holdco, also known as Transformco, USA Today reported. Lampert, who relinquished the CEO role when the company filed for bankruptcy, was the company's largest shareholder and creditor at the time of the bankruptcy.

The statement did not say how many employees will be affected by the closures.
