Walter J. Currie Jr., Pop Warner And Little League Coach In Toms River
Currie spent most of his life living in Toms River and moved to Brick 10 years ago; his son, Walt, is the Brick Memorial football coach.

Walter J. Currie Jr. of Brick, who coached Pop Warner and Little League in Toms River for years, died Tuesday morning at Community Medical Center, according to his obituary on the DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home website. He was 73.
Currie was a past Pop Warner coach for St. Joe’s Angels and Toms River Little Indians. He also coached in the Toms River East Little League and was a past board member. He worked as a trucking dispatcher for Bilkay’s Jersey Coast Freight Lines, Neptune, until he retired and he served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967.
Currie, who was predeceased by his granddaughter Ashlyn, is survived by his sons, Walter E. Currie, the football coach at Brick Memorial, who lives in Toms River; twins Brian R. Currie and his wife MaryBeth of Toms River, and Edward D. Currie and his wife Pamela of Huntingtown, Md., as well as seven grandchildren -- Matthew, Connor, Megan, Landon, Erich, Sean and Tanner. He also is survived by his former wife Maie Currie of Toms River, and nine nieces and nephews and their families, according to the obituary.

He was born in East Rutherford and lived in Toms RIver before moving to Brick 10 years ago, according to the obituary.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, 119 Union Ave., Lakehurst. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River at a later date.
