Warning Issued About White Male Accosting Children At Sports Complex

Police were called to the Drum Point Sports Complex in Brick on Saturday following a report the man had followed children to a pizza parlor.

Parents and guardians are being warned to be on the lookout for a white male with a backpack after two children were reportedly followed by a man at the Drum Point Sports Complex in Brick.

In a notice posted on the Twin County Soccer Association’s Facebook page, club president Tom Bell warned all of the club’s parents to be alert and aware after the incident, which occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday, he said.

“Two children were accosted by a white male wearing a backpack in the area of the turf stadium,” he wrote. “The adult male followed the children as they walked to Pasquale’s Pizza in Drum Point Plaza, asking them if they needed a ride.

“The male was persistent in trying to talk with the children; the children eventually ran from the male and back to the lacrosse teams playing at the turf to report the incident,” Bell wrote. “There was no further identification on the male at this time.”

The notice said soccer club officials had received reports about a tall white adult male with scruffy facial hair, wearing a backpack and a royal blue hoodie, in the complex approaching children, offering them cigarettes and trying to talk with them, he said.

“Please be extra observant about your children wandering away while at the fields alone,” he said. “Bathroom visits should be accompanied by an adult and children should develop the buddy system at all times while at the fields.

The police have been at the complex and will continue patrols at this time, Bell said. The Brick Township Police Department can be reached by calling 732-262-1150 or by dialing 9-1-1.
