This Week In Brick: Council Meeting; Downton Abbey; Rabies Clinic

The council is expected to introduce ordinances that will take residential uses off the list of possibilities at the Foodtown site

The third full week of 2015 begins with the federal holiday today marking the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Federal, state, county and local government offices are closed today. There will be no mail delivery.

The township’s schools are closed as well.

On Tuesday, the Township Council meets at 7 p.m. at the municipal building. The agenda includes a pair of ordinances to change the zoning of the Foodtown site. The first ordinance would remove residential use as a possible option in the plan for the site, known formally as the Metedeconk Village Redevelopment Plan. The second ordinance would remove the site from the mixed use zone overlay. Both ordinances will receive their first readings.

On Wednesday, the Brick branch of the Ocean County Library has a pair of fun events for the kids. At 10:30 a.m., bring your preschoolers to Appreciate A Unicorn Day. At 4:30 p.m., have your kids bring their favorite stuffed dogs to the Spectacular Stuffed Dog Show. Show off their tricks and have them run the obstacle course. On Saturday, fans of of the television show Downton Abbey will have the opportunity to meet Jessica Fellowes, author of “A Year in the Life of Downton Abbey,” the companion book to the show. The event, at the Toms River branch of the library, includes a public book signing event that is free, as well as a VIP event. For information about ticket availability, call the library at 732-349-6200.

On Sunday, the township will hold its annual free rabies clinic. Bring your leashed pet to the Drum Point Sports Complex, 41 Drum Point Road, for the clinic, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Licensing will not be part of the clinic.
