BRICK, NJ — Swimming at Windward Beach Park has been shut down due to high bacteria levels in the Metedeconk River, the state said Wednesday.

The state Department of Environmental Protection said water tests from the river showed a reading of 340 colonies of enterococci bacteria on Wednesday. The standard requires that the concentration of bacteria not exceed 104 colonies of Enterococci bacteria per 100 milliliters of sample.

The test result Wednesday followed a result of 110 colonies on Tuesday.
