NJ Weather: Wintry Mix Expected To Sweep Through NJ This Week
A hazardous weather outlook was issued as some areas could get up to 5 inches of snow, causing schools to close or delay openings.

More winter weather that could make driving very slippery is expected to sweep through New Jersey this week, according to forecasters. Some areas could get as many as 5 inches of snow beginning Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the whole state, saying locations along and north of the I-78 corridor may see snow amounts of up to 3 to 5 inches. But most of the state is expected to have some impact.

Precipitation is expected to move into the area late Tuesday night through the day Wednesday. The precipitation type is still uncertain, but most of the region is likely to see a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, or snow Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The storm is expected to unleash a swath of snow, ice and slippery travel conditions over the midwestern and northeastern United States from Tuesday through Wednesday, according to an AccuWeather release. There is the potential for significant snow and ice accumulations that can disrupt motorists, airline passengers and daily routines.

“A wintry mess is likely to bring hazardous travel from the central Plains through the Ohio Valley into the Northeast Tuesday and Wednesday,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Jake Sojda said in the release.

Here is the forecast:
- Monday afternoon: Sunny, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
- Monday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 19. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening.
- Tuesday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 39. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
- Tuesday night: A slight chance of freezing rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Wednesday: Rain, snow, and freezing rain before 10am, then snow between 10am and 11am, then rain after 11am. High near 44. East wind 7 to 11 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
- Wednesday Night: Rain before 3am, then a chance of rain and snow between 3am and 4am, then a chance of snow after 4am. Low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
