1 Car Stolen, 3 Burglarized: All Unlocked In Bridgewater

Somerset County has recently seen a surge in car thefts and burglaries. Those cars targeted are usually unlocked with the keys inside.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — One car was stolen and three others were burglarized in Bridgewater recently. All of the cars were unlocked.

On Oct. 3 at 6:07 a.m.: A white man was captured on video surveillance, going into two unlocked cars as they were parked in a driveway on Union Avenue. The man took a laptop, Chromebook and power tools from the cars.

Between Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. and Oct. 7 at 11:30 a.m.: An area resident on Milltown Road had his unlocked car burglarized. Change and a key to the car were taken.

On Oct. 11 at 4:10 a.m.: A man stole an unlocked car from the driveway of a home on Beaumonte Way after the car's keys were left in the car. The car was recovered in Newark on Oct. 12.

Somerset County has recently seen a surge in car thefts and burglaries. The common denominator is that most, if not all, of the cars, were unlocked with keys inside. Read More: Surge In Car Thefts Reported In Somerset County

Authorities continue to urge residents to lock their cars and remove any keys or valuables from inside.
