2 Families Left Homeless After House Fire In Somerset County

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, NJ — A second-alarm house fire has left two families displaced on Friday.

Just before 8:10 a.m., the South Bound Brook and Bound Brook Fire Departments were called to a reported structure fire at 120 Howard Ave. in South Bound Brook.

South Bound Brook Police arrived to find a working fire in the second floor of a residential building, said South Bound Brook Fire Department.

Everyone was able to get out of the home with no injuries reported.

A second alarm was called to bring in additional manpower from other towns.

The fire was placed under control in just under 45 minutes, said the fire department.

The Red Cross of New Jersey reported helping "three people in two families with emergency assistance for temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other immediate needs."

Red Cross Disaster Health & Disaster Mental Health Services were also available.

The cause of the fire is under investigation with the South Bound Brook Borough Bureau of Fire Prevention.
