2 People Escape, Dog Dies In Raritan House Fire

The fire broke out early on Tuesday morning to a home on First Avenue.

RARITAN, NJ — Two people were able to escape and a family dog died in a house fire early on Tuesday morning in Raritan.

The fire broke out around 4:44 a.m. on Tuesday at a home at 56 First Ave. in Raritan. Raritan Police arrived first and the fire was later upgraded to a two-alarm.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the house and it was under control in about an hour.

Two people who were inside the home were able to escape but the dog died, said Raritan Fire Chief Brian Kredatus.

Red Cross helped get a home, food and clothing for the two residents.

Crews remained on the scene to handle hotspots and help with the initial investigation. All fire units were cleared from the scene around the 3-hour mark, according to Raritan Fire Department.

"We would like to thank our neighbors for their help this morning," said Raritan Borough Fire Department.
