39 Cats Rescued From 'Deplorable Conditions' In Somerset County

Donations are needed for St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center who is helping the cats to put on some healthy weight before being adopted.

SOUTH BOUND BROOK, NJ — Thirty-nine cats were rescued by St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center from "deplorable conditions" in an apartment in Somerset County this week.

The cats were found following an eviction at the apartment in South Bound Brook and animal control officers were called. The cats were taken to St. Hubert’s, which has shelters in Madison, North Branch, and Ledgewood.

The cats are receiving care to help put on some healthy weight before being adopted out to permanent homes.

“St. Hubert’s special emergency fund was depleted this summer after the rescue of 193 cats found in similar condition,” said Vice President of Development & Communication Erika Mathews. “We desperately need our community’s support to ensure we can give these cats the second chance they deserve.”

St. Hubert's is asking for volunteers to help with fostering and is offering one-on-one counselling for new volunteers and will provide all the necessary food and supplies to foster families. Contact St. Hubert’s Foster Coordinator Steve Valentin at svalentin@sthuberts.org for more information.
