4th Annual Laps For Lex 5K To Be Held At Duke Island Park

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Iron Girl Project, Inc. (IGP) announces that they will host the 4th Annual Laps for Lex 5K Run & 1M Walk at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater on May 19.

The proceeds raised by Laps for Lex and future annual events go towards the Alexea G. Karpinski Memorial Scholarship supporting graduating high school senior athletes.

Iron Girl Project, Inc. was specifically created to honor the memory of Alexea "Lex" Karpinski, an aspiring two-sport D1 athlete and Honor Roll student in her junior year at Hunterdon Central Regional High School who died suddenly in November of 2020.

It supports high school student-athletes on their journey to create their own legacy, one which has a positive impact on their teammates, families and communities.

Since 2022, Iron Girl Project has awarded 10 Alexea G. Karpinski Memorial Scholarships totaling $22,530 to high school student-athletes throughout New Jersey. Several of last year’s nine recipients attended the 3rd Annual Laps for Lex Run/Walk and received their award in person from Lex’s family.

The amount of the scholarship was chosen to reflect the jersey numbers Lex wore at Hunterdon Central, #22 for lacrosse and #53 for field hockey. This year, IGP hopes to increase the number of scholarships awarded to worthy applicants who demonstrate true grit, understand the value of teamwork and exhibit leadership on and off the athletic field. Applications are due April 15.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available at a Gold ($2,500), Silver ($1,000), Bronze ($500) and Community Support Level ($250). New this year, for $100, a small business, running team, family or individual can purchase a race route lawn sign customized with the race logo, an inspiring quote, and a name, logo or text. Signs will be placed all along the race route and will be available to take home afterward.

Iron Girl Project, Inc. hosts three key fundraising events each year for the scholarship fund. In addition to the run/walk, IGP will host the Links For Lex 3rd Annual Golf Outing on Sept. 23, and the virtual Flex For Lex Workout Circuit Challenge in November 2024.
