Tuesday's Somerset Patriots game will be played against the Long Island Ducks, and will feature displays during the Somerset Medical Center health fair. So to get you ready for that, we present five facts about the medical center itself.
Information from the medical center's website.
- Nationally Accredited—The hospital has 355 beds in total, and emergency, medical/surgical and rehabilitative services at its location in Somerville.
- Community Programs—Aside from medical services, the hospital offers lots of community-wide programs, including health fairs, screenings, seminars and support groups.
- Steeplechase Cancer Center—It is on the medical center's campus, and provides cancer services. It is a 63,000-square-foot outpatient facility that also provides educational and support programs, plus complementary medicine programs.
- Institute for Robotic Surgery—The center offers the da Vinci Surgical System, which is new technology that translates a doctor's hand movements to the work it does, and cannot move on its own. It also provides magnified views.
- Nursing Services—The Department of Nursing was recently named to a "Transforming Care at the Bedside" initiative for best practices working at the bedsides of patients.
