5 Injured After Driver Falls Asleep, Crashes On Route 202/206 In Somerset County: Cops

The crash caused the highway to close in both directions overnight on Sunday.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Five people were injured after the driver of the car fell asleep and crashed on Route 202/206 on Sunday night, said Bridgewater Police Lt. Douglas Thorsen.

On May 4 at 10:15 p.m., a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas was driving on Route 202/206 South around Mountain View Avenue.

"The driver of the Volkswagen, Colin Matthews, fell asleep and ran off the road to the west, said Thorsen.

The Volkswagen hit a curb, a telephone pole, and overturned before coming to a rest on the shoulder, said Thorsen.

All five occupants of the vehicle sustained suspected minor injuries.

The highway was closed in both directions overnight. It reopened around 5:45 a.m. on Monday.

Far Hills - Bedminster First Aid Squad (FHBFAS) was among those to respond along with Bradley Gardens Rescue Squad, Martinsville Rescue Squad, and Manville First Aid & Rescue Squad.
