SOUTH BOUND BROOK, NJ — Self-proclaimed cat lover and children’s book author Apara Mahal Sylvester has released her newest title, Mousie’s Way Home, which focuses specifically on the plight of feral cats.

Mousie’s Way Home is the heartwarming story of the author’s experience in gaining the confidence of a feral cat whom she named Mousie.

The book is geared towards ages 5-7 and the story builds an adventure for the reader as the scared, lonely, abandoned cat runs from humans no matter what their intentions are.

The story follows Mousie. He was humanely trapped, with the help of St. Huberts, and discovered that he had a microchip to someone in town. However, when Mousie was returned, the owner harshly stated that they did not want the cat, said Sylvester of South Bound Brook.

Sylvester fed Mousie outside her home for three years before bringing him inside in July 2022.

Though Mousie is not social, he now enjoys living in comfort and warmth in Sylvester's home.

"All cats deserve a loving home, even the abandoned and forgotten ones," said Sylvester.

The illustrations in the book reflect the emotions of the cat and some depict scenes from her hometown of South Bound Brook.

Sylvester feels the last line of the book is the best representation of how she feels about the story:

"I learned in life that life is beautiful and that there is indeed goodness, kindness, and love in this world. I found my home."

Sylvester penned her first children’s book, "Down By The River Where Dreams Come True" in 2019. Read More: Somerset County Author Publishes First Children's Book
