UNION, NJ — One person is dead and another was airlifted to a hospital with injuries following a crash with a tractor-trailer on Thursday night on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County, said authorities.
On Thursday at around 8:10 p.m., an Acura RSX and a Mack tractor and semi-trailer driving eastbound crashed at milepost 12.6 in Union Township, said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez.
The crash caused both vehicles to go into the center median before hitting the guardrail, said Goez.
The tractor-trailer overturned and the driver, identified as Adan Loya-Rodriguez, 51, of Waynesboro, VA, died from his injuries, said Goez.
The driver of the Acura, 21-year-old male of Midlothian, VA, had moderate injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, said Goez.
The crash caused the interstate to close in both directions for hours as a result. It has since reopened.
The accident remains under investigation.
