SCVTHS students brought home 86 medals from the 2026 New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships. (SCVTHS )
BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Students at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School recently competed in the 2026 SkillsUSA New Jersey State Championships against other Career and Technical Education students from around the state.
A total of 169 students from Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School took part in the state competition. Of those students, 86 received medals. The school’s medal count included 34 gold medals, 26 silver medals and 26 bronze medals.
The gold medal winners are now eligible to continue on to the next level of competition at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, in June.
More than 6,000 Career and Technical Education students from around the country are expected to take part in the national conference. During that event, students will showcase their talents and compete in more than 100 trade, technical and leadership fields.
The competition structure is tied directly to industry standards. Each industry determines the skills students need to demonstrate during the contests. The competitions are also run with help from industry trade associations and labor organizations.
