BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Pluckemin-based Troop 154 recently completed its 2026 Spring Tour, traveling through Delaware and Maryland from March 28 to March 29 for a weekend of educational and historical activities.
The trip began with a crossing on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry, where Scouts got a view of the Delaware Bay and experienced maritime travel.
In Lewes, Delaware, the troop visited Fort Miles and toured Battery 519. The guided tour focused on World War II coastal defense systems, including the scale and function of artillery used to protect the U.S. shoreline.
The troop then continued to the Air Mobility Command Museum. There, a guided tour of military aircraft highlighted the development of air transport and its role in global operations, according to the trip summary.
Saturday ended with dinner and a tournament at Medieval Times, followed by an overnight stay in Annapolis, Maryland.
On Sunday, Scouts took part in a program at the Annapolis Maritime Museum centered on oystering in the Chesapeake Bay. The hands-on program introduced Scouts to the ecological importance of oysters, including their role in water filtration and habitat restoration.
Before returning home, the troop stopped in Baltimore to visit the Historic Ships. Scouts toured several vessels there and learned more about naval history during the final leg of the trip.
Troop 154 is led by Scoutmaster Michael Richards and meets Friday evenings during the school year at Pluckemin Presbyterian Church.
