BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A SWAT situation at a Bridgewater hone continues in Friday with a shelter-in-place in effect for residents near Hill Lane.
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that "the investigation is contained to a single residence, and there is no threat to the public at large at this time."
"Residents in the immediate area should continue to shelter in place until further notice. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes," said McDonald.
McDonald, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Acting Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay, and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John Mitzak shared the update just before noon on Friday.
Bridgewater Township. Police are still at scene on Hill Lane and roads surrounding the area remain closed.
Additionally, Garretson Road is closed between Vicky Drive and Country Club Road, said Bridgewater Police in an updated alert on the situation Friday.
McDonald added that due to the nature of the ongoing investigation, limited information is being released at this time.
The Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District also sent out an alert to the community.
"We have been informed by Bridgewater PD that students are safe to go to school, but please plan an alternate route if you are driving on Garretson Road," said Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.
Police initially issued a shelter-in-place on Thursday night.
"There is ongoing police activity on Hill Lane and the surrounding area," said police around 9:20 p.m.
Residents in the area are asked to shelter in place until further notice.
