BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The continued hearing of an application by Cafe Emilia — to demolish a church on a neighboring property and combine the lots to add a 100-seat banquet hall, a 30-seat bar, and a courtyard area — is being pushed until August.
The application was supposed to be heard on Tuesday; however, the Township announced that "the Zoning Board of Adjustment will NOT convene on May 26 due to election-related activity in the meeting room."
As a result, the Cafe Emilia hearing has been adjourned to Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Bridgewater Township Municipal Building, located at 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater.
Cafe Emilia is located at 705 Route 202 in Bridgewater.
This would be the third hearing on the application, which has since evolved.
The initial application proposed a rooftop bar and a two-story, 16,773 square foot building.
Following concerns from neighbors about the size and overflow parking onto the residential streets, the rooftop bar was nixed, and the size of the building was reduced to 10,337 square feet.
The applicant is seeking 10 variances and six design waivers for the project.
The meeting will be carried to Aug. 11 at 7 p.m.
