BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater-Raritan High School inducted 94 students into its World Language Honor Societies during a May 21 evening ceremony at the school’s renovated auditorium.
The event recognized students for academic achievement and commitment to foreign language studies, with the Chinese, French, Italian and Latin honor societies taking part.
"The ceremony highlighted the importance of world language education and the positive impact these honor societies continue to make within the Bridgewater-Raritan community. Members of the World Language Honor Societies have completed their volunteer service by tutoring other students, donating to charitable organizations, and celebrating the diverse cultures represented in our communities," according to Italian Honor Society advisor Fiorella Bologno with Giuseppina DiMartino.
The keynote speakers were Damian Storey, an assistant principal at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, and LeighAnn Matthews, supervisor of world language and English as a Second Language for the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District.
Dan Hemberger, principal of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, also attended the ceremony.
Bologno said the speakers emphasized language study and student effort during the program.
"[Speakers] reiterated the importance of learning a foreign language and becoming global citizens, and the effort demonstrated by the students. Ms. Matthews also recognized the dedication and guidance provided by the World Language Honor Society Advisors: ChiaYing Jen Liu, Jennifer Haff, Shelly Wakde, Fiorella Bologno, Giuseppina Di Martino, Lucinda Jaffe and Elizabeth Farshtey, whose mentorship has played an important role in supporting students throughout their academic journeys," Bologno said.
She also said the advisors thanked school leaders and the audience for supporting the program.
"The advisors thanked Hemberger, Storey, and Matthews for their continued support of the World Language programs and for their participation in this memorable celebration," said Bologno.
"The advisors also thanked the families, caregivers, faculty members, and community supporters who attended the ceremony and continue to encourage students in their pursuit of academic excellence and cultural awareness," said Bologno.
Bologno closed with a message to the new members: "Congratulations to all newly inducted members of the World Language Honor Societies on this significant achievement."
The school also shared a program for the Bridgewater-Raritan High School World Language Honor Society Induction Ceremony.
