The event will honor one of the country’s earliest and most significant flag designs.

The Hopkinson Flag is widely associated with Francis Hopkinson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and one of the men credited with helping design an early version of the American flag.

The township said the flag is distinguished by 13 six-pointed stars representing the original colonies.

Bridgewater Township described the flag as "a powerful reminder of our nation's founding and the enduring principles upon which it was built."

Residents are invited to attend the brief ceremony. The township said the event is intended to honor the American flag, reflect on the nation’s history, and recognize the sacrifices of the men and women who have defended the freedoms it represents.
