BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A new ear piercing studio, founded by a mother looking for safer options for her daughter, is coming to the Bridgewater Commons.
Rowan, an ear piercing studio, will be opening on Saturday, June 13, on the main level of the mall across from Apple.
Founder and CEO Louisa Serene Schneider told Patch that Rowan grew out of her own experience as a parent.
"Being a female- and mom-founded business is deeply personal to Rowan's mission," Schneider said. "The company was built from my own experience as a mother who wanted something better for her child."
She said that when she looked for an ear piercing experience for her daughter, she did not find one that felt both safe and celebratory.
"When I couldn't find it, I created it," Schneider said.
Schneider said that experience still shapes how Rowan operates, from its studio design to its hiring.
She said the company aims to build a business that reflects what families want during what it describes as a meaningful milestone.
At Rowan, piercings are provided by licensed nurses using hypoallergenic earrings.
"At Rowan, every piercing follows the Rowan Clinical Piercing Standard® — ensuring the safest experience possible without sacrificing the joy of the moment," said Schneider.
She described the studios as "joyful and whimsical" and said the business serves customers across a wide age range.
Rowan pierces "the young and the young at heart," with customers ranging from infants to older adults.
On the choice of Bridgewater, Schneider said the mall location fit Rowan’s family-centered approach.
"Bridgewater Commons felt like a natural fit for Rowan," she said. "As a brand rooted in family and community, we're always looking for places where families gather and where our mission of safe, celebratory piercing experiences will truly resonate."
