BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Bridgewater-Raritan High School goalie Reid Feinstein didn't just anchor a lacrosse defense this spring — he turned every save into a donation.
Feinstein, a Class of 2026 graduate, recorded 183 saves this season and pledged a dollar for each one, contributing $183 to a season-long fundraiser for Imagine, a New Jersey nonprofit that supports children and families coping with loss. The team's total fundraising for the organization reached $2,500 this year.
The initiative built on a tradition started in 2024 by former teammate Brody Nussman, a Class of 2025 graduate now at Stockton University, who launched Goals for Imagine and challenged the team to raise money for every goal scored. That effort brought in $5,005 tied to 132 goals during the 2025 season, according to Nussman.
"This was not about just raising money, but it was about coming together as a team and a community to support a great cause," Nussman said of the 2025 campaign in a statement.
When Nussman left for college, he handed the fundraising effort to Feinstein.
"Brody asked me to take over, and I said 'sure,'" Feinstein said in a statement. Rather than tie donations to goals scored, Feinstein flipped the model to reward goals prevented.
"It was super amazing to run this fundraiser," Feinstein said.
On the field, Feinstein helped lead Bridgewater-Raritan to a 16-4 record, a Somerset County Tournament championship game appearance and a berth in the North Group 4 state semifinals, where the team fell to Westfield High School in overtime, 11-10. Bridgewater-Raritan also lost the county title game to Gill St. Bernard's School, 8-6.
Feinstein's play earned him All-America and All-State recognition, along with the Bob Scott Award, given by USA Lacrosse to one senior boys' player per region who demonstrates leadership, academic achievement and service to his team and community. New Jersey recognizes two recipients each year, one from the Shore region and one from the North region.
Feinstein was also selected to wear Bridgewater-Raritan's No. 8 jersey this season, a tradition dating to 1990 that honors the late Michael Bruce, a standout player who was paralyzed in a car accident in the fall of his senior year in 1988 and died in 2000. Feinstein was the 37th player to wear the number.
"It was an honor to wear the No. 8 jersey this year," Feinstein said.
Bridgewater-Raritan head coach Matt Apel praised Feinstein's leadership both on the field and off.
"It has been a pleasure to have Reid not only play in our program but also be one of its strongest leaders," Apel said. "Reid was also chosen to wear the No. 8 this season in memory of Michael Bruce and stepped up to spearhead our continued effort to support Imagine, an organization to help those who suffer the loss of a family member, in memory of '98 alum Mike Schambach. These two alumni and their memories form the foundation of our program and guide us in how we want to help our players develop as young men."
Feinstein will continue his lacrosse career at Iona University, where he plans to play goalie and study business.
