Scammers Are Impersonating Police In Somerset County: What To Know

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The Somerset County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about scammers impersonating police.

"We've received reports of individuals falsely claiming to be members of the Somerset County Sheriff's Office and telling residents they have a warrant for their arrest. This is a scam!" said the Sheriff's Office.

Police warned residents to:

• Never send money or share personal information over the phone
• If you're unsure, hang up and call the Somerset County Sheriff's Office directly at 908-231-7140
• Nowhere in New Jersey are Sheriff's Officers called "Deputies"
• Scammers often use fear tactics and fake titles to trick victims
