BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The Bridgewater Fire District #2 Board of Fire Commissioners is asking the public for help after a resident drove through a fire scene and caused more than $2,000 worth of damage to a hose.

"Although we may have equipment damaged as part of the hazardous nature of our operations, this was a reckless act resulting in an unnecessary expense, and seeking restitution is appropriate," said the Commissioners.

On Thursday, volunteer firefighters battled a kitchen fire on Oak Street in the Bradley Gardens section of the Township.

"During this incident, a resident not only drove through the scene after ignoring firefighters' warnings to stop, but also drove over a pressurized hose," said the Commissioners.

After the resident got stuck on top of the hose, the Commissioners said the resident rocked their vehicle back and forth to free it.

This caused more than $2,000 in damage to the hoses and couplings, according to the Commissioners.

"Thankfully, the hose did not suffer a catastrophic failure, which could have led to the injury or death of the driver, responders, or bystanders," said the Commissioners.

Firefighters were focused on extinguishing the fire and could not identify the vehicle.

If anyone has information on the driver of the vehicle, they are asked to email the Bridgewater Fire District 2 at bwtfd2@yahoo.com.
