Obituary: Vic Corbo, grew up in Bridgewater

Vic Corbo, 85, of Elkton, VA, passed away on Saturday, August 29 at home, surrounded by those he loved and who loved him fiercely. He was born September 4, 1940, in Bridgewater, NJ, to the late Angelo Sr. and Mary Corbo. He learned carpentry from his father and his love of cooking from his mother.

Vic graduated from Somerville High School in 1958, served his country in the U.S. Army, and worked 34 years at IBM as an engineer and programmer, having moved to Hurst, Texas in 1982 and retiring in 1996. He then moved to Elkton in 2004.

Vic loved music; he often played the organ, and sometimes he would break out in song. Some of his favorite songs were "Heavenly Shades of Night are Falling" by the Platters, and show tunes, such as "You Did It" from My Fair Lady. He enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle and the 1971 Mustang he restored. Vic was a member of the White House, NJ Fire Department, and a member of Somerville, NJ's bicycle club, the Somerset Wheelmen.

He also took great pleasure in participating in improving his community in Elkton. He helped clean up the town through "A Better Elkton."; volunteered for Elkton's Ruritan Club, Elkton Community Center, Meals on Wheels, and EAUS' Thrift at Heart Store.If you knew Vic, you knew him to be a selfless man, always ready to help someone out.He was a humble man who said his birthday was "just another day".Vic was unpretentious that way, with a dry sense of humor.

Family and friends were important to Vic. Often, he would have breakfast and coffee around town at McDonald's, the former Blue Elk Coffee, and Mr. J's Bagel Express.

His greatest pride is the three women in his life who survive from his late ex-wife, Marie: daughters Louise Corbo of Elkton and Lisa Corbo of Staunton, and his precious granddaughter, Isabella (Justin) of Waynesboro. Also surviving are two brothers, Phil Corbo of Lacey Spring, Angelo Jr. of Basking Ridge, NJ, sisters Andrea Dalrymple of Bridgewater, NJ, and Lynda Walker of Ridgefield, WA. He had many nieces and nephews. Vic is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joseph.
