Somerset Co. Florist Celebrates International Women's Day With Roses

RARITAN, NJ — Friday is International Women's Day and Raritan's Angelone's Florist is celebrating and honoring all of the local women of the community by handing out 200 roses at random.

"We want to thank the local women who take care of us and hold up our community along with encouraging women to get out to local establishments and treat themselves for the day," said Angelone's Florist Owner John Angelone, who is fourth generation in the family business at 101 2nd Ave, Raritan.

International Women's Day celebrated on March 8 is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

Throughout the day on Friday, Angelone, his brother, and employees will be visiting local establishments in Raritan and Somerville and giving out roses to celebrate the women in the community.

"Our goal is to celebrate and thank the women who are the backbone of our communities and families for what they do and how much they mean, even if it's not always shown," said Angelone. "We want to not only celebrate but also empower the women in our community."

Angelone's goal is to hand out 200 roses by the end of the day. He also plans to visit the local hospital to hand out roses to women nurses, doctors, and patients.

"My mother and wife are both registered nurses so this is important to me and important to my family," said Angelone.
