Reports of Shots Fired After Fight At Bridgewater Commons Mall

Breaking: "The report of shots fired is under investigation and has not been confirmed at this time," police said.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — A report of possible shots fired and a fight in the Bridgewater Commons Mall food court on Thursday night caused much alarm among local residents.

A report of a fight in progress was reported at 6:27 p.m. in the Bridgewater Commons Mall food court. Bridgewater Mall security were able to separate the people involved, which continued onto the outside parking lot area of the mall, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

As Bridgewater officers were responding, a call of shots fired was reported to police.

"The report of shots fired is under investigation and has not been confirmed at this time," Robertson said.

Bridgewater Police officers along with Detectives from the Bridgewater Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene and conducting the investigation.

There are no injuries to report at this time, no arrests or suspects have been identified. The area is secured by law enforcement.

"There is currently no threat to the public and there are no injuries reported, everyone is safe!" police stated in a Nixle alert around 7:50 p.m. "The situation is fluid so we ask the public to assist us and avoid the Mall and until further notice. Please do not call 9-1-1 or police communications asking about information."

The initial alert sent out around 7:30 p.m. telling locals to avoid the mall due to police activity.
