Bears Hibernate at The Preschool Place and Kindergarten
Students learned about black bears in their Our Planet Earth enrichment class, with the help of their favorite teddy bear.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Preschoolers at The Preschool Place and Kindergarten, 594 North Bridge Street, Bridgewater learned about black bears in their Our Planet Earth enrichment class — with the help of their favorite teddy bear.
The children were delighted to tuck their teddy bears in a warm quiet cave for winter and learn about the hibernation process and reasons bears hibernate in winter.
The teddy bear hibernation was the culmination of a multi-disciplinary learning unit about black bears. The preschoolers learned scientific facts about black bears and gained an understanding that black bears are an important natural resource and part of New Jersey’s heritage.

The children made collage bear headbands to dress-up as bears, played a musical hibernation game by moving to music and ‘hibernating’ when the music stopped, and read books about real bears and story book bears.
“Our Planet Earth teaches children about the natural world in a playful, engagingand educationally sound way. By teaching children about the beauty and wonder of the natural world, we enrich their lives with knowledge of the world around them and help them form an appreciation that will cause them to want to preserve our planet’s gifts,” teacher Mrs Ginny Kirk said. “The children enjoyed learning about black bears and had fun with their hibernating teddy bears.”
