Blue Crabs Beat Patriots 2-1

Waldorf, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (21-32) defeated the Somerset Patriots (32-20) 2-1 Wednesday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium.

 

In the bottom of the first inning first baseman CJ Ziegler slapped a RBI single to give the Blue Crabs an early 1-0 advantage.

Second baseman Jake Opitz slugged a solo home run (6) in the bottom of the third inning to increase Southern Maryland’s lead to 2-0.

Somerset cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning when second baseman Brian Barden belted a solo home run (1) making the score 2-1 which would be the final.

 

Gaby Hernandez (1-3) earned the win tossing 7.1 innings allowing just one run while striking out seven batters and walking none. Matt Langwell (2-5) suffered the loss hurling six frames while surrendering two runs on six hits. Jim Ed Warden notched the save (10) pitching a perfect ninth inning.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Saturday, June 21st when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
