Library Restoration Moves Ahead After Asbestos Work In Somerset County

BOUND BROOK, NJ — Bound Brook has moved into the next phase of restoring the historic Bound Brook Memorial Library after asbestos abatement was completed earlier this year.

According to the borough, the Council in May awarded a construction contract to Westcraft Builders for the alteration phase of the library restoration project.

The borough described the work as a major step toward returning the building to public use while preserving one of Bound Brook’s historic properties.

The current phase includes restoration of the Adult Reading Room, the Main Level and both Mezzanine Levels, according to the release.

The borough said those areas will be renovated and reopened to the public when the project is complete.

Some parts of the library will remain unavailable during this stage.

According to the release, the Children’s Area on the lower level, along with the Conference Room and Archive Room on the upper level, will remain closed until a future Phase 3 renovation is undertaken.

Construction is progressing steadily and is anticipated to be substantially complete in early fall 2026, according to the borough.

Once that point is reached, the borough said it will partner with the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey to announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the library’s reopening.
